Managing Director - National Sales

Mr. McElwee is the managing director of national sales at Tortoise, where he focuses on driving growth for the firm. He is responsible for managing the external sales efforts, developing new opportunities and deepening existing business relationships. Mr. McElwee maintains a particular focus on providing solutions to solve the challenges of financial intermediaries and their clients – challenging advisors to venture outside the traditional “nine-box” approach to asset allocation.

Mr. McElwee’s background includes more than two decades of experience providing wealth advice and generating sales within the financial services industry. Mr. McElwee is a co-founder and previously served as a senior wealth advisor at Mariner Wealth Advisors, where he led the efforts of the business development and retirement plan services teams. Before leaving to found Mariner, Mr. McElwee spent more than 13 years at A.G. Edwards.

He has served on the board of directors of several organizations, including the Salvation Army, the United Way, the YMCA, the Chamber of Commerce and the Government Review Council. In 2007, Mr. McElwee was recognized as a Five-Star Wealth Manager by K.C. Magazine. This award is given to less than 3% of the wealth managers in the Kansas City area, and it is based on overall client satisfaction. As an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®), Mr. McElwee has completed a specialized program on investment fiduciary standards of care at the Center for Fiduciary Studies.
